Hello to everyone out there

I have decided to bring the M.A.C. to a close. After a year and a half, so much great mail art was created and shared, and it is time to move on to new projects.

For a quick post card exchange, please follow the directions below and

The newest exchange (#11!) for the collective is "themed" DISGUISES/COSTUME!
(i say "themed" because it is your choice to use the theme for your
mail art or to do something different. it's totally up to you!)

You can send your partner for this exchange a disguise or a costume
they can wear to a party, to work, out walking around town or to hide
out in their own home. Or you can do whatever you want!

To sign up for the 11th exchange, please send an email to mailartcollective@gmail.com including your name and current mailing address. You will receive your partners
name and mailing address via email next week (The sign up cut off date will be June 29th).
You have to send out your mail art to your partner by July 25th.

Just a reminder that if you are interested in participating in the
Mail Art Collective's Post Card Exchange, the due date is next friday
JUNE 6th!

Here are the directions:

Send 5 Post Cards that you have made/altered/etc that are either 3x5

(the suite 200 part is very important)

These postcards MUST HAVE CORRECT POST CARD POSTAGE. Post Card stamps
are much cheaper than regular stamps, but the price of stamps went up
on May 21st. They will not get sent if you do not provide the stamps.
Please leave the address area blank so I may fill in the address.

In return you will receive 5 postcards from 5 different artists in the mail!!!

Hope all went well for those who enjoyed the TEXT exchange we last
had. Now it is time, My friends, For another exchange (#7).

The "theme" is RECIPES/INSTRUCTIONAL. What is that? You might
ask. What could I possibly do for this exchange?? Good QUESTIONS!
Here are some ideas/suggestions for what you could send:
+ Your favorite recipe for a food, drink, etc.
+ A recipe for DISASTER
+ An instructional video making food, an object, doing a dance, etc.
+ An instructional audio tape/cd of how to do some of the above
+ A brochure of how to make anything, instructions of how to get somewhere

REALLY these are just IDEAS! You can do anything you want. Really.

The Ideas Behind the Mail Art Collective

My dad works for the United States Postal Service, he's a MAIL MAN. Since 2nd Grade I have always had pen pals all over the country. I guess I can say I have been making "Mail Art" for a long time. Everyone loves getting mail, I know I do.

This Mail Art Collective is going to have open calls, these open calls will either be themed or un-themed and will happen every month. What will happen is I will collect the names of people who are going to do the swap and match you up with someone who I think you should meet or if your work or 'style' will make each other happy! Just because this is mail art, doesn't mean you have to be an artist at all. Here are some ideas for mail art swaps

- Mix Cd's / Mix cassette tapes / Mix VHS tapes
- Writings, letters, poems
- Postcards
- Packages of found items
- Zines

I could go on and on, but I want you to use your creativity. Your mail art does not have to cost you more than the postage! Keep this in mind! But if you want to go all out and buy your swap partner something special, or put money into packaging, etc, then go for it. There is NO size limit (except follow the rules of USPS! make sure you can mail it!), NO time limit on the creation, it's totally up to you. It could take you 5 minutes, it could take you a week, it could take you the whole month. Also, just make sure you mail it, you don't want your mail art partner to not get anything in the mail!

My name is Joanna S. Quigley and I will be in charge of matching up mail art swap partners for the collective and I will be sure to make this interesting and exciting. Summer is a great time to make mail art, because most of us aren't in school anymore and need something to maybe look foward to. Everyone is welcome into this collective
